My mom used to snore — loud enough that I could hear her from my room with the door closed. She gave those Breathe Right nasal strips a try and they REALLY cut back on the snoring. She hasn’t stopped entirely, but the nasal strips did make a definite difference. Here are some more quick fixes for nighttime noise that may help you AND your spouse get a good night’s sleep. Unique Father’s Day Travel Gift Ideas

Do you know Father’s Day was started? Apparently, back in the early 1900s a young woman named Sonora Smart Dodd was inspired to honor her dad in much the same way she did her mom each year on Mother’s Day. The idea of giving dads a day of their own caught on, but it took until 1956 for the occasion to be officially recognized by a joint resolution of Congress, and wasn’t until 1972 that President Nixon made it official. If the idea of paying tribute to your dad with yet another tie just doesn’t sit well with you this … Continue reading

Tearing it up for Father’s Day

In my last blog I threw out a couple unique Father’s Day gift ideas involving travel; specifically giving dad the chance to put the pedal to the metal—-legally. One of the most popular driving schools for racing fans is the Richard Petty Driving Experience. The program is offered at two-dozen tracks across the United States and has an annual enrollment of more than 100,000 drivers. (So, yes, it is very … Continue reading

What Causes Snoring?

In a strange turn of events last night, I heard myself snoring. I was having a weird dream (sort of a monster movie kind of scenario) and one of the people in my dream kept telling me that I was snoring. “No,” I insisted. “I don’t snore.” But I could HEAR myself snoring while I was dreaming (and denying it). Very weird. I tend to talk in my sleep — I’ve done it since I was a little kid — but don’t often snore. So it made me wonder about the cause. A few different things can cause snoring, like: … Continue reading

Men Who Drink Are At Risk For Sleep Disorders

A new study from the University of Wisconsin at Madison found that men who habitually consume alcohol are twenty-five percent more likely to have a sleep related breathing disorder than those who do not. The study looked at both men and women, but there was no significant relationship between alcohol consumption and sleep related breathing disorders. This may have been due to the fact that the 645 women in the study tended to generally drink less habitually than the 775 men in the study. Further studies are planned to look at the relationship between alcohol and sleep related breathing disorders … Continue reading
