How to Remove Bunchems from Hair

Every year, there is are specific toys that are considered to be the hottest, most popular, Christmas gift for kids. This year, a toy called Bunchems has attracted a lot of attention. The toy inspires creativity, but, unfortunately, also can get stuck in children’s hair. Bunchems is a toy that functions similarly to LEGO. Each Bunchem is a round, colorful, ball that appears to be made out of plastic. Each Bunchem is covered in little hooks that enable it to connect to other Bunchems. The cool thing about this popular toy is that it inspires creativity. Kids can build things … Continue reading

Summer on a Stick

Last year, I gave into the hype and actually purchased chocolate-covered bacon on a stick at the Wisconsin State Fair. It was as gross as I thought it would be… for $5. If you like fatty strips of bacon threaded on a wooden skewer and dipped into gooey milk chocolate, you’ll likely find the sweet and salty treat to be incredibly appealing. However, if you prefer spending hot summer days cooling off with a frozen slice of heaven on a stick, I would highly suggest making the following. Not only are these easy recipes kid-friendly, but they are also a … Continue reading

Special Needs Blog Week in Review – June 17 – 23, 2012

It is time, once again, for the Special Needs Blog Week in Review. It brings you a quick summary of each of the blogs that were posted here in the past seven days. This is an easy way to find the blogs that you might have missed. The Special Needs Podcast Roundup went up on June 18, 2012. This week, I’d like to point out an episode of The Coffee Klatch. The episode is called “The Best of Coffee Klatch – Dr. Ross Greene – Explosive Child”. Dr. Ross Green is the author of a book called “The Explosive Child”. … Continue reading

Disney Parks Raising Ticket Prices

It might really be time to take advantage of those cheaper flights to Orlando, because Disney World’s just raised its ticket costs. The Orlando Business Journal reports that over the first weekend of June, Disney World bumped its one-day, single-park ticket to $89, when previously it cost $85. This might have been in response to Disney World’s biggest competitor, Universal Studios Orlando, raising its one-day single-park ticket price to $88. I think not, because the prices on many types of park tickets are going up this summer. Four-, five- and seven-day tickets to Disney World now cost $256, $268, and … Continue reading

Girl Removed from Disney World for Dressing as Tinker Bell

Disney loves to encourage devotion or obsession among its fans. That makes it mind-boggling, then, that last week a girl was kicked out of Disney World for wearing a Tinker Bell costume. The justification park execs gave? Her costume was too good. Tampa Bay Online has the details. Fifteen-year-old April Spielman worked and saved for over a year in order to afford tickets herself to Disney World. She also put a lot of dedication into creating her own rather realistic Tinker Bell costume. The plan was for her and her boyfriend to go to Disney World on their own money … Continue reading

You can design the most incredibly unique layout known to man, but if you can’t get it to stick on your scrapbook page, then all your hard work means nothing. Do you have little ones who are just dying to write on the walls? Why not let them? Yes, I am absolutely serious. Olee Kids makes decorative graphics with flair and creativity. It is an amazing website with items that will make your child’s room special. One product I have a fondness toward is the Chalkboard Shapes. Made from vinyl the set of four shapes measure approximately 12”x12” and are completely erasable. The shapes include a flower, circle, star and butterfly. Now you can say “yes” to writing on the walls! If you want to move the shape to another … Continue reading

The Tin Whistle Drum Stick

If there’s one thing you must know about my son if you’ve been following this blog for any length of time at all (and I really mean even as recently as a few days ago) it’s that he absolutely loves music. Loves it with every fibre of his visible being. We played music for him in the womb (in part to help him un-breech himself); we introduced him to music early and often; we made a number of instruments available to him without reservation as early as possible. When I briefly studied in Ireland I picked up a tin whistle … Continue reading

How to Spice Up Stickers

I am a sucker for scrapbook stickers. However, I melt even more when I can find sensational stickers at reduced rates. End of the season sales and discontinued lots are excellent ways to score major savings on scrapbook stickers. That’s the good news. The bad news is that some deeply discounted stickers are not exactly the cutest of the bunch. Still, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and there are ways to make the most of plain stickers. The following are just a couple of techniques that will help you spice up discontinued scrapbook stickers: Paint Overlay This … Continue reading

How to Remove a Splinter

Growing up, we had hardwood floors. I bet you can see where this is going: I ended up with a lot of splinters thanks to those floors! Many a tortured hour were spent under the bright lights in the kitchen while my dad dug splinters out of my feet and I squirmed and complained. Okay, maybe it wasn’t actually HOURS, but it sure felt that way! Something so small as a sliver of wood (or glass, or metal) can be a huge pain when it gets stuck under the skin. There are different things you can try to get a … Continue reading
