The NFL Goes to the Disney Institute

It’s not been a good year for the National Football League. I don’t follow the sport at all, but even I know they faced a players’ strike just before the 2011 season was supposed to launch, and that anything to do with the Super Bowl, besides the football itself, has been under fire recently. Who do you call when you want to revamp your image and better organize events for giant crowds? Disney, apparently. USA Today reports that the NFL has signed up for some training with the Disney Institute. If you don’t remember, the Disney Institute is part of … Continue reading

Tristi Pinkston Shares Thoughts on Juggling, Ranting and Raving, and Faith

One of my resolutions for ‘08 was to emphasize the positives of marriage. My thinking was that if we have good examples to follow, we’ll have guides to help strengthen our own relationships. That said, I’d like to introduce you to my fellow blogger, Tristi Pinkston. Tristi is a Senior Blogger who covers Media, Movie Reviews, and LDS and has been married to her husband twelve and a half years. I asked if she’d be game for an interview because she’s a very witty, wise woman who always has sage advice. In other words, she’s primo role model material. I … Continue reading

Five Weird Pregnancy Symptoms

There are a number of weird, though perfectly normal, side effects to pregnancy that no one tells you about.  You might get all or none of these, and it could vary from one of your pregnancies to another. 1. Bloody Gums.  Early in the second trimester I began noticing a bit more blood than normal when I flossed.  I went to my routine dentist appointment, and the hygienist confirmed that yup, that’s just something that can happen when you’re pregnant.  Chalk this one down to hormones; they’re making your gums (and other parts) more inflamed than usual.  Pregnant women are … Continue reading

Breast Cancer Awareness

October is breast cancer awareness month. As a single mother it is so important to take care of your health. Your children are depending on you to be healthy for them. Of course there are times when things happen that are completely out of your control. You can be eating right, exercising, doing all the right things and still end up with this life threatening disease. The important thing is that you are doing routine self exams and annual mammograms so that you can catch it early on. We all know that mammograms aren’t very fun. They are painful and … Continue reading

Author Interview: Haley Hatch Freeman, Part Two

We are joined by Haley Hatch Freeman, author of the new book “A Future for Tomorrow.” Yesterday we began our conversation with Haley and she told us of her struggles with anorexia as a teenager which she documents in her book. We continue our chat today. Haley, thank you for being here with us today. One section of “A Future for Tomorrow” deals with a period of time during your recovery when you had to deal with dark influences. How did you come to peace with that in such a way that you were able to share it with others … Continue reading

Home Week in Review: July 14 – 20

Another week has gone by and here is our review: Ironing: The Chore we love to hate I guess I don’t really hate it (although my recent bought with ironing did inspire the title) but let’s just say, it’s not my favorite thing to do. In my case, it may be that I’m just not that great at doing it. I tend to burn myself and my clothes and those stubborn wrinkles seem to get the best of me. Wash and wear works for me. However, there are some products and some tips that will help make ironing a little … Continue reading

Weight a Minute! Lessons from a Panda

Caution: This blog contains movie spoilers. But it’s all for a very good cause. Friday night, my husband and I went to see the film “Kung Fu Panda.” I couldn’t help but identify with the loveable and yet large star of the show, an oversized panda named Po. As we came away from the film, I thought about the messages imbedded in the plot, and realized just how much they related to weight and self-image. 1. Po has a dream, that of becoming a kung fu master. Each night when he goes to bed, he sees himself as being sharp … Continue reading

Trimming Your Tree For Less: A Tree For All Seasons

Trimming the tree is traditionally done right after Thanksgiving. Some wait for the first week of December, but if you’re like me, you’re ready to start putting it up right after the last of the Turkey has been consumed on Thanksgiving day. We have traditionally had two trees we have used every year. An adult tree, and a child’s tree. Both were purchased at 75% off after Christmas, both are pre-lit trees and one is a full sized tree, with the children’s tree being a bit smaller. A couple of years ago, a third tree was purchased. I did this … Continue reading

An Aggressive Form Of Breast Cancer You NEED To Know About

Last month was Breast Cancer Awareness Month and while I concentrated on making you aware of the various retailers helping to combat the disease, I neglected to provide much information on the most aggressive form of breast cancer–many women have never heard of it. My mother is a breast cancer survivor. Two years ago she was diagnosed with Stage 2 cancer and underwent a series of treatments. Today she is still not 100%, but is on the road to recovery. Prior to her diagnosis I was aware of the disease (moderately), but knew nothing of the most aggressive form of … Continue reading
