Paula Deen Comes Clean

Hey Y’all, I got diabetes. Can you just hear that spoken in Paula Deen’s southern accent? Well, that may not be exactly how she released the news, but it’s true – one of America’s favorite chefs has Type II diabetes. It really shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. If you’ve ever seen a Paula Deen show, read one of her recipes, or even eaten a Paula Deen recipe someone’s cooked, you know they are so good because they are so bad. One even gained all his weight back then lost it again. I find it amazing that many of the contestants come in so sick due to their weight, then often issues such as high blood pressure and diabetes virtually disappear with exercise, eating right, and weight loss. A new show just premiered that may help a lost group – overweight chefs. “Fat Chef” features a dozen overweight chefs. For four months, they … Continue reading

Autumn Recipes: Z is for Zucchini

We made it. It took nearly a month, but today marks the last entry in our Autumn Recipes A-Z series. Hopefully, you’ve added a few new seasonal recipes to your fall repertoire and in the process you’ve been inspired to experiment with dishes that wouldn’t typically find their place on your dining room table. Today, we’re focusing on another seasonal ingredient: zucchini. The versatile, green vegetable (technically, part of the gourd family) can be added to both savory and sweet dishes. My favorite zucchini recipe comes courtesy of Food Network’s Paula Deen (no surprise). Her Chocolate Chip Zucchini Bread is … Continue reading
